First Ride Of 2013

Not sure whether this can be classed as training, wobbling round slowly more like.

First Run Of 2013

runningOh Dear is all I can say, start the new year as we mean to go on, well that was the idea anyway.  If it carries on like this though I may as well give up.

What To Do In The Off Season?

Here in Spain we don't really have an off season, as events are run all year and it's never cold enough to stop training.  The other day I was looking at a picture of a friends husband in the UK, he had just been for a run in full tracksuit, body warmer, high viz vest, hat, gloves and a headlight for good measure.  Thankfully the worst it gets here is a full suit and occasionally gloves.

A Bit Of Mud And Rain

Setting off today with overcast skies, damp roads and a chill in the air reminded me of my days mountain biking in the UK.  Not that it is a bad thing, just unusual for a day on the Costa Blanca.

2012 BTT Jesus Pobre

Mountain biking at night with lights! Are you mad? Well that was my first reaction when I noticed that the 1st Jesus Pobre event would be nocturnal.  Asking a couple of cyclist friends neither of them had entered such an event before and I really wasn’t sure that it was a good idea, maybe I’ll give this one a miss.

2012 BTT Bernia Pt.2

Mountain BikingFollowing on from my failed attempt at this year’s event, I decided that I should at least try to finish the route, just so I know where the new bits are and am ready for next year.  Setting off from home I took the slightly faster road down to Jalon and headed out of the village past the scene of my puncture and DNF of a few weeks ago.  Cycling carefully looking for any obvious sharp rocks, none where found so still not sure on the cause of my mishap, but not to worry onwards and upwards as they say.

2012 BTT Bernia

The weekend started well with a reasonably relaxed Saturday in readiness for an early Sunday start.  Having forgotten to register it meant getting there earlier than usual as registering on the day at the last minute is not recommended.

Sunday morning came around all too soon and off I went bike and kit packed in the van.  Jalon (Xalo) is only about 6km from where I live so not too far to drive.  Registration went without a hitch and I managed to sneak back home for another cuppa and a bit more breakfast before returning for the start.  At this point I started to realise that I wasn’t quite myself, not ill as such but not fully normal (if normal is ever possible).

New Wheels, Brakes & Shifters

Trek 4300 before new wheels etc.Looking forward to the 2012 BTT Benidorm, I started to check over the bike, all was well until it came to the wheels and more specifically the Shimano loose bearing hubs.  They had been serviced, by me, a couple of times over the last few years and adjusted regularly but after 4000km with me and an unknown amount with the previous owner they were starting to cry “enough”.
