Mountain Biking Can be Painful

As mentioned in my previous article New Years Resolution (update) I have been trying to get a bit fitter again this year.  Starting with some brisk walks, turning into a bit of jogging and eventually some running, with a bit of MTB thrown in for good measure.  Whilst writing that article it became clear that the MTB had taken a back seat more than I had intended.  So a decision was made to try to get home from work a little early and make amends, this is where the problems began...

New Years Resolution (update)

So, I thought that it was about time to update everyone on my progress this year. Having made a bold statement of intent in my New Years Resolution, was I actually following up with action or had I slipped back to winter comfort foods and cold weather excuses.

New Years Resolution

OMG I have just had the shock of my life, on returning from one of my favourite restaurants, I decided it would be a perfect time to jump onto the scales to asses the damage of the festive season.  As the scales groaned into life it was obvious that there was a problem.  What do you mean no coach parties, that's not polite.

Dalby Bike Barn

Mountain BikingBeing back in my home town of Scarborough (in the UK) is always a mix of emotions, seeing relatives and catching up with long lost friends as well as visiting places I haven't been to since I was young.

This trip was to be a little different though as I had also allowed some time for a days mountain biking in Dalby forest.

What To Do In The Off Season?

Here in Spain we don't really have an off season, as events are run all year and it's never cold enough to stop training.  The other day I was looking at a picture of a friends husband in the UK, he had just been for a run in full tracksuit, body warmer, high viz vest, hat, gloves and a headlight for good measure.  Thankfully the worst it gets here is a full suit and occasionally gloves.

A Bit Of Mud And Rain

Setting off today with overcast skies, damp roads and a chill in the air reminded me of my days mountain biking in the UK.  Not that it is a bad thing, just unusual for a day on the Costa Blanca.

A Day Out In Benidorm

Chris alderton La Nucia BMX 4X TrackFollowing on from the 2012 BTT Benidorm, my son and I decided to rerun part of the route at a slower more relaxed pace.  We started at the Poniente side of the town at the point the original route went off-road and headed uphill following some of the markers left from the previous weekend.

Hangover Cure

WalkPinder School ScarboroughMountain BikeSchool reunions: full of people trying to out do each other, divorcees looking to rekindle their school romances or people simply looking to have an evening catching up with old friends?  I’ve heard all sorts of conflicting stories over the years so it was with this in mind that I approached the event held on Sat 12th November in my home town of Scarborough North Yorkshire.  It had been planned over the previous few months mainly using Facebook to contact as many of the class of 86 as possible, reaching around 70 in total out of 150ish.

As the date grew closer flights and train tickets where booked and the FB event list had more and more confirmed people.  I had stayed in touch with 2 of my best friends from school over the years so Ian, Dave and I decided to go together for moral support and to have a sneaky pint beforehand.  Ian is also a keen mountain biker so a plan was hatched to make more of the weekend by fitting in a days ride on the Sunday before my return flight on the Monday morning.
